Jornadas Doctorado 2022

Over the next few days, February 3 and 4, the VIII Doctoral Conference 2022 will take place at the University of Salamanca, in the context of the Doctoral Program of Ancient Classical Texts and their Survival. Doctoral students from the three universities that make up this program, University of Salamanca (USAL), University of Santiago de Compostela and University of Valladolid (UVa) will meet.

The purpose of this event is to promote contacts among these three universities, as well as these researchers. In turn, thanks to these conferences, it will be possible to attend the various presentations that will reveal the lines of research of the different aspiring doctors and the plenary presentations that bring together a rich cast of renowned guest professors from different universities, such as Juan Antonio González Iglesias (USAL), Cándida Ferrero Hernández (UAB), Óscar Prieto Domínguez (USAL), Miguel Ángel Andrés Toledo (USAL) or Paloma Guijarro Ruano (UCM).

Within this event, Manuel Mayo will present a paper entitled “Dogs from beyond: guardians, psychopomps and liminal beings. A shamanic approach to dogs in the Indo-European tradition” in which he will reflect on the sacred conception of canines in the Indo-European religion, through the analysis of textual and iconographic testimonies from various traditions such as the Indian, the Greek, the Celtic, the Germanic or the Avestan. Also dealing with Indoeuropean languages, Benjamín Vidal will present a paper on “The words for ‘water’ in the Tocharian languages”.

In addition, Julia Hombre will present a communication entitled “I think I see two suns and a double Thebes. The innovations of the Pentheid in the Dionysiaca of Nonnus of Panópolis”; Pablo Torres Paris will read a paper on “λωτίνοις δροσόεντας ὄχθοις. The characterization of the afterlife in fragment 95 of Sappho” and Elena Garcia Paleo will focus on: “Shame, modesty and secrecy: an approach to the concepts from the perspective of ritual aischrologia”.

In the field of Latin literature, Ainoa García Mella will focus on “Archetypes of women in Roman literature”.
