The Peter Lang publishing house in Berlin has just brought to light the edition with introduction and notes of a work of medical content published in 1597: La conservación de la salud del cuerpo y del alma, by the doctor and professor at the University of Salamanca, Blas Álvarez Miraval.
The work is a joint effort by professors Eduardo Álvarez del Palacio, from the University of León, and Ángel Ruiz Pérez, from the University of Santiago and member of the “Classical and Medieval Studies” Research Group.
The value of this work lies above all in the elegance of the prose, in the exposition of the state of research in medical issues, especially in the interaction of the bodily realm with the spiritual. The doctor Álvarez de Miraval turns to a very large number of ancient authorities, whose quotes come from previous works from that same century. In the book there is an extensive biobibliographic study by Santiago García Morilla, professor at the University of León.
