Gregorian exegetical orientation diverges in this treatise from the Origenian interpretation, which will become canonical after the writing of Jerome of Stridon\u2019s <em>Commentarius in Ecclesiasten <\/em>(4th century). Thus, the critical edition replaces the previous editions, which did not know or analyze all the existing manuscript tradition.
